What school of writers/thought does Anton Chekov belong to?

He was a Russian writer, but I don't know what cl he belongs to being that he didn't write about the "going-ons" of the time like Restoration and Romantic writers and such. Chekhov mostly focused on the mind in the stream of consciousness and moral issues like in "Gooseberries," if you've ever read that short story. Someone maybe able to explain this better. But I tried.
