Why are we taught to hate the confederacy?

Mainly because you live in the northern part of the country, the confederates weren't evil per say, we were both the same, in many ways, but they wanted slavery to continue, and I guess the north was determined to stop that at all costs that's why the civil war is viewed as a tragedy
