What is and how can I tell?

Someone told a friend that a nice clmate of mind is a douchbag and brownnoser. English is my second language so I not understanding the full meaning. Can someone explains? Also I think he is really nice;however, he likes to bump and get in my bubble. He seems just VERY NICE and personable. Should I watch out?
