Any good video editing software similar to iMovie?

I've always wanted to make those really cool videos that people on youtube make like lex and syd, socalhco888, woohoooandpags, pickleandbanana (just naming a few known ones). But all of them have macs and I have Microsoft. Windows Movie Maker is alright, but definitely not good enough for what I'm trying to achieve. So, I was wondering if anyone know any free, virus-free, downloadable video editing software that would be similar to iMovie that I could use. I know of Sony Vegas, which I tried to download, but everytime I tried to put music to a video, it would say "Error" and shut down. Also, I tried Adobe Premiere but it was only a trial and I want something I can use for life. If there is nothing downloadable that is free, do you know anything that I may buy in stores to download onto my computer that's not overly expensive. If I could have gotten a mac, I would've. But I'm not the richest person in the world. My family doesn't have 900 to shell out for a laptop just because I want to make videos, that would be, anyway, the only thing I'd use it for since I otherwise don't care for macs.
