Contemporary American novels dealing with mistfits in society..?

For my thesis I am looking for contemporary American novels where the protagonist is externally adapted yet internally unable to live or be happy in their society. Currently I have three examples: "Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison, "The Bell Jar" by Silvia Plath, "American Psycho" by Bret Ellis Easton" ... I am grateful for all suggestions. Thank you in advance.
