14 yr old yellow lab losing hair in clumps/tufts?

Sounds like he needs to have his thyroid levels checked. Take him to the vet, have the vet run a complete panel, thyroid and all. most likely thyroid needs adjusting but it could be something else which might be found by having the complete panel done.
